Resources

Below you will find travel companies, NGOs and social enterprises that serve important roles, and other friends and partners that we have made in the region. While we make recommendations in articles and in the country guides, this page highlights our A-list of contacts in West Africa.

Knowledge Base

West Africa Travellers – Our sister community, a dynamic facebook group filled with active travelers in the region, constantly providing updates on road conditions, places to visit and visa information, amongst other things.

Regional Tour operators

Scoot West Africa – This is our current project operating mainly in Senegal, Gambia, and Guinea-Bissau. We are running small group and bespoke scooter tours that give you the freedom to explore at your own pace.

Papillon Reizen – Specializing in tours in Mali, Papillon Reizen also runs tours throughout the region. Their tours are responsibly run with an emphasis on immersive, cultural experiences. Their guides and local contacts are excellent and you are unlikely to feel like a tourist when you are on their trips.

Overland Morocco – Not West Africa, but for those who are doing a trans-Africa trip or a West Africa trip that is entirely overland, this outfit can get you started the right way in Morocco. They make a point of exploring the under-visited areas that are not overcrowded with tourists. They have also started adding on trips to West Africa directly from Morocco.

Overlanding West Africa – One of the only companies offering genuine overland trips throughout the region, and perhaps the only to go through Guinea, Sierra Leone, and Liberia. Great ownership team committed to giving their clients an awesome travel experience.

NGOs and community projects

CREER – This center in southern Cote d’Ivoire houses, educates and rehabilitates children that have been trafficked in the region. Some of the children have been sold by their own families. Others may have been kidnapped. This important initiative works to restore their childhood and secure their future.
